Indonesia Calling Code FAQ
- What is the country calling code for Indonesia?
- +62. From abroad, dial your exit code (or +), then 62, then the Indonesian number without its leading 0. Area codes and mobile network codes stay.
- Do I drop the 0 in an Indonesian number?
- Yes, and only the 0. Jakarta’s 021 becomes 21 after +62, and other area codes lose their 0 the same way. A mobile number that begins 08 at home continues with 8 after +62.
- How long is an Indonesian mobile number?
- There is no single length. The national plan fixes only the three-digit mobile network code, which starts with 8; each operator decides how many subscriber digits follow it. Drop the 0 and copy every remaining digit after +62.
- Is there one exit code for calling abroad from Indonesia?
- No. Indonesian international prefixes take the form 00X, where the digit after 00 selects the international network. 001 is commonly used and appears in the ITU’s list of dialling procedures. On a mobile, + avoids the choice, and none of these prefixes belongs in a saved contact.

How to Dial Indonesia
Saving the number in contacts
Start with +62, then use the reviewed national significant number. Remove the national prefix 0 in front of the area code or mobile network code, then add +62.
Calling from abroad
On a mobile, use the + form. If a network requires digits instead, replace + with that origin network's international prefix. A commonly used exit prefix for outbound calls from Indonesia is 001.
Calling an Indonesia landline
Remove the first 0 from 021, then add +62.

00 62 21 XXXX XXXX. - From Australia:
0011 62 21 XXXX XXXX. - From any mobile:

For an Indonesian mobile, follow the same steps: your exit code or +, then 62, then the number without its 0. No mobile pattern is shown because operators set their own lengths.
Exceptions and Routing Notes
Common Indonesia Formatting Mistakes
- Keeping the 0 after +62, as in +62 08….
- Rejecting a valid mobile number because its length differs from another Indonesian mobile.
- Saving an international prefix such as 001 as part of the contact.
Number Portability and Carrier Data
Mobile number portability means a prefix may not identify the current carrier. Treat carrier data as a timestamped lookup result, not a permanent property of the number.
