Which regional exceptions matter most?

  • Shared numbering plans

    +1 covers the United States, Canada, and multiple Caribbean/Atlantic jurisdictions; the next digits resolve the destination.

  • Significant leading zero

    Italian geographic numbers retain 0 after +39, unlike the removable trunk zero used by many countries.

  • Carrier-selection prefixes

    Brazilian routing strings may contain a carrier code that must not be saved as part of the +55 destination number.

  • Overseas territories

    A territory may share a parent code or use another code, so political association alone does not determine the dial string.
